Ahhh the serenity…

I’m writing this blog from the last stop on our current holiday.

A little holiday home called Serenity

When I was booking it, I was torn between this one, and another called Tranquility.

It was pretty hard to choose between the two, but I’m glad I went for serenity in the end.

There have been quite a few serene moments on this trip.

The first one came, quite unexpectedly, in the Capricorn Caves.

The guide played the song Hallelujah so you could hear the resonance (they have operas here).

Then turned out all the lights so we were in total darkness.

I appreciate some people might find this uncomfortable…

But I found it very serene.

Our next moment was the Sky Window in Yanala (Eungella National Park).

A breathtaking view… and words of wisdom…

The next came at Cape Hillsborough…

A vast beach, almost entirely to ourselves…

Listening to the sea and the calls of the Red-tailed Black Cockatoos.

Feeling the sun and a light breeze on my skin.

Noticing the sand balls left by tiny crabs… and the footprints of roos and wallabies.

Just perfect.

Then there was Airlie Beach.

I have to be honest – there’s not a lot of serenity in Airlie – but the view from our room was stunning.

We were recommended to go to Cape Gloucester Resort for lunch.

It’s about 40 minutes north of Airlie, and a lovely spot.

But it was a Saturday and in full swing with the kids’ inflatable water slide and loud music.

So we left and went to Dingo Beach.

Oh my goodness…

It has to be my new favourite place.

There was live music at the local pub – but it was gentle and relaxing.

The food was amazing… probably the best prawn & mango salad I’ve ever had…

Or maybe it was just the location that made it taste so good.

It was hard to leave.

That night we were on a sunset cruise, which in itself sounds serene…

But being Airlie there was a party crowd on board.

One of the best things about this part of the world though is the colour of the sea…

Turquoise.

Just beautiful.

So we focused on that with a lovely glass of bubbles… and views of a $22,000-a-night house you can rent!

We’ve done quite a few long drives on this trip…

On one particularly long drive we stopped and got out of the car – in the middle of nowhere – and just listened…

So quiet.

Just the natural soundtrack of the bush…

So serene.

We noted the changing scenery and local industries…

From cane fields, to coal mines and lots and lots of cattle.

In Taroom we sat out and looked at the stars… so clear and bright.

That brings us to today.

Writing my blog with the soundtrack of nature around me…

The birds… and cicadas…

Watching fluffy white clouds…

Looking at the beautiful gum trees gently moving in the breeze…

And that view…

Ahhhh… the serenity!

Ann 🙏
