Since Michael decided to retire I’ve come across so many funny sayings and expressions about retirement:
What do you call a person who is happy on a Monday? Retired.
Retirement is when having a good time is your only job.
The best part about being retired is never having to request time off.
Retirement is when you stop living at work, and start working at living.
I even bought him this card…
But it’s funny the different reactions you get when you tell someone you are retiring…
In the main, most people were very happy for him…
Some people said they were a bit jealous (in a nice way)…
But then there’s always one or two that question it, saying something along the lines of why, you’re too young?
Apart from being able to afford it (and have access to a pension), is there a set age you have to be?
That said, we haven’t actually received his first pension payment – which is a bit (read a lot) concerning!
But there is a lot of disruption that goes with any change of life.
Whether it’s moving job… or house… getting married… having kids…
It all requires change… adapting…
Finding a new normal.
We’ve already joined an exercise class…
Have factored in walks and reading…
But we have so much planned… it now seems to be finding the time to do it all!
One thing I’ve loved so far, is both of us being able to take breaks… together.
No rush back to the office to meet a deadline.
Both taking time to listen to the birds… including a Powerful Owl two nights ago.

Having the time to take some time…
To breathe… and practice mindfulness… together.
Going back to all those retirement quotes, I quite like this one:
Retirement is not the end of the road. It is the beginning of the open highway.
Now if we can just say ‘hello pension’… we can get on that road!
