New year… new you?

With a new year I always feel like I’ve just hit the reset button.

Starting over… starting fresh.

A clean page.

New ideas, plans, thoughts.

Moving on from whatever happened last year… good or bad.

My husband started a new job this week – that’s a huge new start for both of us.

Happy New Year!

But with a new year comes the pressure to make new year’s resolutions.

We get bombarded with adverts telling us how much we need to change ourselves.

Lose weight…

Start a new diet… or exercise regime.

Get fit.

Give up something.

Be a ‘better‘ person somehow.

Because we need to ‘fix‘ ourselves to fit what people think we should be.

But what we really need to do is learn to like oursleves for who we are.

We’re often our own biggest critic.

How many times do you find yourself saying negative things, or criticising yourself for being ‘too much’ or ‘not enough’ of something?

Well you know what?

You are good enough!

Self care is something we all tend to neglect.

We’re too busy… working, looking after others.

Self care is way down our ‘to do’ list.

So this new year why not set an intention to make some time for you?

Everyday if you can.

Even if it’s just having a quiet cup of tea.

Take a moment for you…

Take that moment.

Savour it.

Be present by noticing what you can see, hear and feel.

Breathe.

Notice you are breathing.

Feel your body move with each breath.

I like to start a meditation with the intention of letting go of everything else, whatever’s been happening, whatever I’ve been worrying or thinking about.

Notice I said ‘with the intention‘?

I don’t clear my mind and of course, my mind wanders and drifts off.

But once I notice this, I bring my focus back.

No-one’s perfect.

You don’t have to be.

But you are good enough.

Ann 🙏
