Forest sensing…

Quite often when we head up the coast, we drop into the Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve.

We love the easy 1.7km bushwalk you can do…

It’s just a gold coin donation to do the walk and the staff/volunteers in the Discovery Centre are always lovely, chatty and helpful.

On our latest drop in I was delighted to discover a new feature in the centre and on the walk itself…

Forest Sensing…

A sort of cross between Forest Bathing (Shinrin-yoku) and Mindfulness…

A panel explaining forest sensing

I love how it explains you can tune in to nature…

Sign explaining how to tune in to the forest

You can borrow a Forest Explorer/Mindfulness Kit… and read the signs in the centre…

Forest sensing signs

And follow the suggestions on the signs throughout the walk…

Pause.

Breathe.

Tune in.

What an outstanding idea!

I absolutely love it.

Mindfulness is definitely becoming much more mainstream (which is great)…

And features like this will help more people to realise it’s something you can do anywhere… anytime.

Just stop.

Look around.

Notice.

Anyway, whether this prompted us to have heightened awareness or not… the forest seemed particularly outstanding on our walk…

Photo collage of trees and forest

In fact our short break was full of wonderful trees and nature…

For example this huge Fig Tree near Kenilworth…

The sea through the trees in Noosa National Park…

Glimpses of the sea through trees

And this stunning Dragon…

Eastern Water Dragon

Everywhere we went I just wanted to take a deep breath and breathe it all in…

In fact this sign summed it up perfectly…

I had never heard the hinterland being described like this…

The Soul of the Sunshine Coast.

Beautiful.

Now back home… I think it’s time to step outside and look at the trees here for a while.

Pause…

And take some deep breaths…

Taking the time to appreciate nature around us…

Whenever we can…

Wherever we are…

Ann 🙏
