Weather the weather…

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been completely fed-up with the rain recently.

Two solid days of dark, wet, miserable weather!

I think it was made worse by a few weeks of showers…

Heavy, persistent showers…

Just when you thought they’d stopped… you’d hang your washing out.. only to run back out ten minutes later as another shower came through.

But at least with showers you do get some breaks.

Not the last two days.

Solid, wet, rain…

Rain in the bush

I know I should be really grateful (and I am for all the watering the plants have had)…

There are so many places desperate for rain.

This had been forecast well in advance… so it was hardly a surprise.

But still, what is it about some rainy days that make you feel like staying in bed?

Perhaps it’s because I couldn’t go for a walk…

Well I could, but I wouldn’t have enjoyed it!

Perhaps it was because I couldn’t check on ‘our’ Tawny Frogmouths…

Or perhaps it’s because I couldn’t sit in my usual sit-space and look at the trees…

I always find it interesting how the weather can have an impact on my mood…

I mean truth be told… the forecast was for two days of heavy rain.

Not two weeks, or two months.

Just two days.

I knew it would be over by today…

But still.

Well actually there is some (grey-ish) science behind this…

Gloomy weather, with reduced sunlight, can disrupt your circadian rhythm – your body’s natural 24-hour clock (telling you when to sleep and when to wake up).

It can play with your hormones…

For example, it can lower your serotonin levels – the hormone responsible for happiness and relaxation.

Weather changes can influence mood and mental health known as ‘weather reactivity’…

And this can lead to Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a condition characterised by low mood, fatigue and lack of motivation.

One thing that has kept me motivated is taking part in the 100 Day Project.

The weather has given me plenty of mindful photography opportunities!

Especially when the rain finally broke late yesterday afternoon, resulting in this beautiful sunset…

And then today… the stunning blue skies returned…

Bue skies and gum trees

I’ve had a walk…

I’ve already spent time in my sit-space…

Already checked on ‘our’ Tawny Frogmouths…

My heart is full, my mood happy.

I just have to learn how to better weather the weather…

Ann 🙏
