ABC Queensland’s Evening show has just started a new project…
The idea being: You commit yourself to 100 days of doing something that brings you joy, or taps into your creative self.
So I’ve being giving it some thought as to what I could do…
It seemed a bit of a cheat to commit to 100 days of mindfulness meditation… even if it brings me joy.
I do that anyway!
But I figured it would have to be something to do with mindfulness…
Noticing something… not just as a glance…
But recognising that something has attracted my attention for some reason…
And then fully looking at it… noticing it… and observing it.
Then it occured to me…
The only way I can really prove to myself that I’ve done this… is to take a photo of it.
So there it is.
My 100 day project is mindful photography.
The project began officially on Monday (April 20).
It was already well into the evening when I suddenly realised I hadn’t taken a photo.
(Going well then on day one!)
I didn’t want to immediately look around and find something to photograph…
That’s not really in the spirit of mindfulness…
Which is more about becoming naturally aware of something.
Anyway we were making a big vegetable casserole that night…
I had some veggies in the pan underway, when I noticed the glass pan lid.
There were these round little bubbles of fluid dancing across the inside of the lid…
I pointed it out to my husband…
“It’s just condensation,” he said.
But it was beautiful and fascinating…

Day one done!
Yesterday I was sitting outside in my usual mindfulness sit spot…
I was looking around at some of the flowering Grevilleas, watching and listening to the birds…
When I noticed that the leaves on one of our Frangipani plants were looking a little sad…
All ready to drop off for winter…
Leaving the plants looking like bare fingers pointing up at the sky.
Then I noticed this rather large bug sitting under one of the leaves…

I had to do a search to find out what it was…
Apparently, it’s a Eucalyptus Tip-wilter Bug or Clown Bug, although they seem to have a number of different names.
Fortunately I didn’t disturb it as they can give off a defensive pungent odour!
Day two done… and I learnt something about a bug I didn’t even know existed.
So that brings me to today.
I’ve been working outside on the patio as the weather is so lovely at the moment.
Each time I look up from my computer, I look at the beautiful gum trees.
The green of the trees…
The blue of the sky behind them.
That could easily be my Day 3 photo…
But instead my eyes keep being drawn down to this amazing pop of colour straight in front of me…
So I had to get up and take a closer look…

Now I know it’s a Geranium or Pelargonium – but I have no idea what sort…
And my searches don’t seem to be helping… there are so many different varieties.
I think it’s a hybrid, but it could be a Zonal Geranium or a Big Red – or maybe it’s both…
So if anyone knows their Geraniums I’d love to know what it is…
Anyway, Day three done.
Don’t worry I’m not going to inflict my full 100 days on you…
But I thought I’d share it with you in case you are interested in getting involved yourself.
If you are… follow this Facebook Page and get some creative joy going.
Only 97 days to go…
Ann 🙏
