It was just by chance we ended up in the small town of Dayboro on Sunday afternoon.
We’d been at the Old Petrie Town Steam Fair, watched the parade, had a coffee…
When it came time to leave, turning right onto busy Dayboro Road just wasn’t happening, so we decided to go home the country route… via Dayboro.
As we were entering the town we noticed lots of blankets wrapped around the bridge…

We’ve come across this in a few places in Winter…
When trees or other things are wrapped in knitted or crocheted items… I guess to ‘keep them warm’.
The most obvious one that comes to mind is Warwick’s Jumpers and Jazz Festival in July.
But there are many places that do similar things across the country.
I didn’t know this, but it’s often referred to as Yarn Bombing: the action or practice of covering or decorating public objects or monuments with colourful knitted or crocheted items and motifs, as a form of street art.
Although graffiti knitting and guerrilla knitting are other names for it.
Anyway it turns out Dayboro has its own event – Yarn Art: A yarn wonderland weaving joy throughout the community.
Volunteer-driven, it’s an initiative of the Dayboro Branch of the Queensland Country Women’s Association…
“A living, breathing display of what happens when a community comes together with a shared purpose: to uplift, include and inspire”.
It certainly did that…

The place was buzzing, people were smiling and taking photos… it’s just brilliant.
Smurfs seemed quite popular this year…

And I loved that functional facilities such as bins, were not immune…

You could easily spend just ten minutes or a couple of hours looking at all the art…

And I loved this: In a world often filled with challenges, this remarkable celebration of yarn art reminds us that colour, creativity and compassion can transform not only spaces, but also hearts.
So if you want to transform your heart and have a smile, the Yarn Art installation is in Dayboro throughout June and July.
Bravo!
Ann 🙏
